Kick off LXDCON'23
Niels Floor | Shapers
Welcome to the eighth annual learning experience design conference LXDCON’23. Together with learning experiences designers from around the globe we will explore this year’s theme "Long Live the Learner”. Join us for four days of learning experience design activities.
10.30AM - 11:00AM
Talk - Discovering Design Research
Maaike Mintjes | Freelance Design Researcher and Facilitator
"Designing without research is like getting into a taxi and just saying: ‘Drive’." * Design research forms a crucial part of the design process. It opens your eyes to what users need, highlights opportunities and provides direction. But what is it exactly? This talk will help you discover the ‘what, why, when and how’ of design research. You will come away with a clear understanding of what it is and why it’s important in LXD. (*Nate Bolt, CEO Ethnio)
11:15am - 12:45pm
Workshop - Interviewing Tips & Tricks
Maaike Mintjes | Freelance Design Researcher and Facilitator
Interviewing is a commonly used method in Design Research. If done right, it is a very effective way to get insights about your target audience. In this workshop you will be given practical tips on conducting great interviews. We will look at the interview structure, question types and pitfalls. You will also have a chance to practice with each other. We will create a fun and safe environment so don’t worry if you’ve never interviewed anyone before!
Note: Attending the talk from Maaike Mintjes at 10.30AM is not necessary to follow this workshop, but it is recommended.
Break until 4:00PM
4:00pm - 4:30pm
Talk - The Fifth C: Leveraging Culture in LXD
Nikos Basbas | Basbas Consulting
HigherEd delivers four universal types of value to the learner: Competence, Conscientiousness, Credibility, and Community. This talk is about the fifth C – Culture, the often-overlooked tool that every LXD’er should have in their toolkit.
4:30pm - 5:30pm
Workshop - Mapping Environments for Learning Experiences
Dr. Sonia Tiwari | Penn State University
Learning Environments include the people, technologies, physical layout of the learning space, and sociocultural factors supporting a learner. In this one hour session, we will learn how to map learning environments by collecting data from learners, educators, and caregivers. Practice maps will be provided in the session to unpack how learning experiences can be improved through mapping techniques.
5:30pm - 6:00pm
Meet Up
Stick around and join the speakers from the previous two sessions. Meet fellow learning experience designers from around the world to network and chat. Each year we welcome participants from all continents and bringing all of you together is one of the best parts of LXDCON. See you there!
