Kick off LXDCON'22
Niels Floor | Shapers
Welcome to the seventh annual learning experience design conference LXDCON’22. Together with learning experiences designers from around the globe we will explore this year’s theme "the art of LXD”. Join us for four days of learning experience design activities.
10.30AM - 11:30AM
Inspiration session - Artistry of the Teacher
Patrick van der Bogt | HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht
Maybe there is another appeal to who designs for education than the need for technical expertise? Might an artistic source from which our impulse to create something also be the same place that a teacher connects with when exposed to the openness of pedagogical ‘moments’? Can we provide sustenance for more esthetic gestures that give shape to education? What are ways of staging or ‘mis en scène’ that prevent an ‘anesthetic’ experience? Let’s explore the absence of desired outcomes and embrace the inefficiency of creation.
11:30am - 1:00pm
Workshop - Show your shelf!
Irene Pena Abellán | Digital Society School
This session aims to ground, visualise and set your intentions for the coming four days. We will land the workshop through a prioritisation exercise to make your goals actionable.
Break until 4:00PM
4:00pm - 4:30pm
Talk - LXD in Higher Ed
Dr. Sarah Gretter | Michigan State University
Touching on learning experience design (LXD) as an increasingly critical practice in higher education, this talk presents a constructivist view of designing conversations to tackle higher ed’s challenges like demographic change, the continued defunding of public education, cost pressures, and the opportunities and challenges of educational technologies. This talk is an invitation to think about LXD as a a core internal competency of a university based on the practical experiences of a specific educational design organization at Michigan State University.
4:30pm - 5:00pm
Talk - Extraordinary Experiences and Higher Education
Brian J. Hill, Ph.D. | Department of Experience Design and Management, Marriott School of Business, Brigham Young University.
This session applies the conceptualization and supporting research of extraordinary experiences to examples within higher education. A typology of extraordinary experiences defines and describes ordinary, memorable, meaningful, and transformative experiences. Confirming research highlights the importance of positive and negative emotions to experience types and the influence of close relationships to shared experience emotions. Experience impact measures have been developed to gage the importance of experiences. These concepts can be applied to higher education in typology, connection, and impact.
5:00pm - 6:00pm
Meet Up
Stick around and join the speakers from the previous two talks. Meet fellow learning experience designers from around the world to network and chat. Each year we welcome participants from all continents and bringing all of you together is one of the best parts of LXDCON. See you there!
